Slovenia’s largest shopping destination, which is accidentally called “BTC city” started implementing cryptocurrency payments with all 500 hosted retail stores.
The shopping center covers 475.000 square-meters and accomodates business and shopping areas in the capital city of Slovenia, Ljubljana.
The cryptocurrency transactions are powered by the Slovenian fintech startup Eligma, which created a point-of sale system that will soon e used by all the retailers in the shopping center.
The Prime Minister of Slovenia, Miro Cerar, recently visited BTC City and was bought a “crypro-coffee” by Slovenian State Secretary Tadej Slapnik through the Elipay cryptocurrency transaction system.
This is just another step forward towards cryptocurrency mass adoption and I hope to see such projects being conducted worldwide. I also hope to hear more often about state officials that are that open-minded and interested in what is, basically, evolution.
